Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA:
- It is a biopolymer that carries the genetic information of many organisms. It contains units of biological information called nucleotides.
- DNA is required for protein production, regulation, metabolism, and cell regeneration.
- DNA is composed of two strands that twist around a common axis in a form called a double helix.
- The double helix looks like a twisted ladder — the crossbar of the ladder is made up of pairs of nitrogen bases [adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), thymine (T)], and the sides of the ladder are made up of alternating sugar molecules and phosphate groups.
