  4. Similarly, anatomical structures that developed from different ancestral lineages are termed heterologous or analogous.
  5. They have the same function but differ in structure and origin.
  6. For example, the wings of birds and bats both evolved to facilitate the same purpose (aviation) but their ancestral lineages aren't the same.
