Question

What does it mean when Kc is greater than 1.

Open in App
Solution

  1. Kc or equilibrium constant determines the concentration of reactant and product with the help of mathematical expression.
  2. This can be rep[resented as the ratio of the concentration of product to the reactant.
  3. At the equilibrium state the one is having more concentration, either reactant or the product.
  4. If in case the value of Kcis greater than 1 it signifies that the concentration of products is more compared to reactants.
  5. On the other hand if the value of Kc is lesser than 1 it signifies that the concentration of the reactant is more compared with products.
  6. If the value of Kc is equal to one then the concentration of reactant and products are equal.
  7. Example: aA+bBcC+dD to calculate the equilibrium constant we often use the formula as follows
  8. Kc=CcDdAaBb; where CandD denote the concentration of the products, and c or d is the stoichiometric powers of respective concentration.
  9. Similarly,AandB denote the concentration of the and a or b are the stoichiometric powers of respective concentration.
