Question

WHAT DOES IT MEAN THAT "ELECTRIC CHARGES ARE QUANTIZED" OR THEY CAN BE STORED IN DISCRETE PACKETS ?WHAT ARE DISCRETE PACKETS?

Open in App
Solution

Charge quantization, then, means thatcharge cannot take any arbitrary values, but only values that are integral multiples of the fundamental charge(charge of proton/electron). For example, in a hydrogen ion, we usually denote it with a positive sign to indicate that there's one proton more than there are electrons.
Discrete packet is
Quantum. ... For example, a photon is a single quantum of light (or of any other form of electromagnetic radiation), and can be referred to as a "light quantum". Similarly, the energy of an electron bound within an atom is also quantized, and thus can only exist in certain discrete values.
