Fungal infections:

  1. Skin diseases that are caused by fungus are known as fungal infections or mycosis.
  2. Fungi live on dirt, plants, household surfaces and on the skin and lead to rashes or bumps on the skin.
  3. There are four types of fungal infections: Superficial, Cutaneous, Subcutaneous and Deep.
  4. Examples of fungal infections are: Athlete's foot, jock itch, ringworm, etc.

If fungal infection is left untreated:

  1. If fungal infection is left untreated it can cause permanent damage to the skin.
  2. In some cases untreated fungal infections can lead to death.
  3. Fungi reproduce by releasing spores. These spores can be picked by direct contact.
  4. Thus, fungal infections can lead to infections of skin, nails and lungs.
  5. Fungi can penetrate into the skin and infect the internal organs.
