Diabetes Insipidus:

  1. Diabetes insipidus is a rare disorder which causes imbalance of fluids in the body.
  2. Diabetes insipidus is caused due to the problems with vasopressin hormone.
  3. The imbalance of fluids leads to the production of large amount of urine.
  4. Also, it can make the person thirsty.

Diabetes Insipidus is caused by two factors:

  1. The first is inappropriate or insufficient secretion of Vasopressin, an antidiuretic hormone.
  2. The second issue is faulty kidney function which is kidneys remove pollutants such as urea from the circulation, but malfunction can lead to diabetes insipidus.

Types of diabetes insipidus:

  1. Central Diabetes Insipidus: This condition is caused by the pituitary gland or hypothalamic injury.
  2. Nephrogenic Diabetes Insipidus: This disorder is caused by a variety of reasons, including renal illness, high calcium levels, urinary tract blockage, or low potassium levels in the body.
  3. Dipsogenic Diabetes Insipidus: This condition is caused by hypothalamic thirst mechanism failure.
  4. Gestational Diabetes Insipidus: This condition develops throughout pregnancy, particularly when the mother's ADH is degraded by placental enzymes.

If diabetes insipidus is left untreated:

  1. It can cause dehydration.
  2. Due to dehydration, the concentration of salts in the body will increase.
  3. Increased concentration of salts in the body will eventually lead to coma.
