Solution

Tonicity:

  1. It measures the osmotic pressure gradient of two fluids separated by a semipermeable membrane.
  2. Hypertonic, isotonic, and hypotonic are the three types of tonicity that a solution can have in relation to another.

Hypertonic solution:

  1. A hypertonic solution has a higher solute content than a cell or another solution.
  2. In comparison to a cell, hypertonic solutions have less water and more solutes.
  3. Cells lose water and shrink in hypertonic solutions.
