Question

What happens to the microbes present in our body when we die ?

Open in App
Solution

They grow unimpeded by our defenses. This is why dead bodies smell bad (anaerobic bacteria) , bloat with gas (gas-producing bacteria) and eventually decompose down to the parts of our bodies that bacteria and fungi cannot consume (teeth and bones). They don’t live forever either and die off as their food supply dwindles. Ironically, they are then eaten by other organisms.
