Solution

  1. When Benzene (C6H6) reacts with Chloroform (CHCl3) in presence of anhydrous Aluminum Chloride(AlCl3) gives Triphenyl methane((C6H5)3CH). This reaction is known as Friedel-Crafts Alkylation of Benzene.
  2. Anhydrous Aluminum Chloride acts as a Lewis acid or catalyst which helps in the alkylation of benzene ring by attachment of Methyl group as it activates the alkyl halide.
