Meloidegyne incognitia infects the roots of tobacco plants. Nematode specific genes were introduced into the host plant using Agrobacterium as a vector producing both sense and antisense RNA in the host cells. These two RNAs formed an inactive double stranded RNA (dsRNA) that silences mRNA by the process called RNA interference (RNAi). This result in protection of the transgenic plant from the parasite which could not survive in the transgenic host.
