Question

What happens when silver nitrate is mixed with the solution of sodium chloride?

Open in App
Solution

Chemical equations involve the chemical formulae of the reactants and products present in the reaction. Reactants are always written on the left-hand side and products are always written on the right-hand side.

When Silver nitrate (AgNO3) is mixed with the solution of Sodium chloride (NaCl) then the ions of both the compounds get exchanged. As a result, white precipitates of Silver chloride is formed (AgCl) are formed and the solution of Sodium nitrate (NaNO3) is formed. The reaction is given as:

AgNO3 (aq) + NaCl (aq) ⇢ AgCl (s) + NaNO3 (aq)
