Solution

Primary alcohols are oxidised to aldehydes. Aldehydes are further oxidised to carboxylic acids.
CH3CH2OH+[O]CrO3−−CH3CHO+H2O
CH3CHO+[O]CrO3−−CH3COOH
Secondary alcohols are oxidised to ketones. Ketones resists further oxidation.
CH3CH(OH)CH3+[O]CrO3−−CH3COCH3+H2O
