Question

What happens when we add dilute sulphuric acid to lime water? Is the mixture hot or cold?

Open in App
Solution

Lime water is a dilute solution of Ca(OH)2, which is a base.
so on addign H2SO4 acid results in producing salt and water

it is called a neutralisation rection.

Ca(OH)2+H2SO4===>CaSO4+H2O

Acid +base===>Salt+water
The mixture willbe hot since all neutralisation reactions are exothermic and releases heat.

note:Exothermic reactions. These are reactions that transfer energy to the surroundings. The energy is usually transferred as heat energy, causing the reaction mixture and its surroundings to become hotter.
