Solution

(i) When a pinch of sodium hydrogen carbonate NaHCO3 is added to ethanoic acid (CH3COOH), brisk effervescence is formed due to the evolution of CO2 gas.

NaHCO3 + CH3COOH CH3COONa + H2O + CO2

(ii) When ethanol (C2H5OH) is oxidised with acidified potassium dichromate(K2Cr2O7), ethanoic acid is formed.

CH3CH2OH acidifiedK2Cr2O7−−−−−−−−−− CH3COOH
