Solution

Hydrolysis is the chemical breakdown of a substance in the presence of water.

Complete hydrolysis of xenon hexafluoride XeF6 :

  • When XeF6 undergoes partial hydrolysis it will gives that oxyfluorides of Xenon that is Xenon oxy tetrafluoride(XeOF4)and Xenon dioxide difluoride (XeO2F2) .
  • On the other hand, whenXeF6 undergoes complete hydrolysis, it gives the xenon trioxide(XeO3) and hydrogen fluoride as :

XeF6+3H2OXeO3+6HFXenonhexafluorideXenontrioxideHydrogenfluoride
