Open in App
Solution

Carbohydrate metabolism:

  1. Carbohydrate metabolism is the biochemical reactions in the cell of the body of an organism to maintain life.
  2. Food is converted into energy by different metabolic reactions in the body.

Hormones involved in carbohydrate metabolism:

  1. Hormones that regulate carbohydrate metabolism are insulin and glucagon.
  2. Insulin and glucagon are secreted by the pancreas.
  3. Insulin helps in the absorption of glucose for energy.
  4. When the sugar level decreases, the pancreas release glucagon which gives a signal to the liver for releasing stored glucose.
  5. Thus, both insulin and glucagon hormones regulate the blood glucose level.
  6. Glucocorticoids and catecholamines secreted by the adrenal gland also help in carbohydrate metabolism.
