Balanced diet:

  1. A diet that includes all the basic requirements of nutrients, which include carbohydrates,proteins,vitamins,fibres,fats and a lot of other micro-nutrients.
  2. A healthy diet provides all the important nutrients necessary for the survival, growth and proper functioning of a body.
  3. An individual should consume a wide variety of food in the correct proportions and drink plenty of water to maintain and achieve an ideal body weight.

Significance of a balanced diet: Eating a balanced diet has a lot of benefits to the body such as-

  1. It provides all the necessary nutrients to the body of an individual.
  2. It helps in maintaining a healthy and disease free body.
  3. Carbohydrates and fats provide energy to the body to work and perform daily activities.
  4. Proteins help in growth and repair of body cells.
  5. Vitamins and minerals boost the immune system and prevent infections in the body.
  6. Roughage or dietary fibres aid in digestion of ingested food.
  7. Water aids in proper functioning of all the vital organs of the body and also in maintaining the osmotic balance of the body.

Therefore, an individual must include a variety of food items in his diet to maintain a functional and healthy body.
