Bimetallic strip:

  1. A bimetallic strip is made up of strips of two different metals joined together by riveting.
  2. When it is heated, it bends due to unequal expansions of two metallic strips.
  3. On cooling, the bimetallic strip bends to the opposite direction of that when heated.
  4. It is used in fire alarms, thermal switches such as those used in refrigerators, biometric thermometer, etc.
