Deletion mutation:-

  1. It is the loss of genetic material in the form of a DNA sequence or a specific part of the chromosome.
  2. This type of mutation occurs when there is an error in the copying of DNA sequences during cell division.
  3. Deletion mutation may lead to genetic disorders.
  4. In chromosome deletion, an entire section of a chromosome gets deleted.
  5. The diagram given below shows that a deletion mutation occurs when one or more nucleotides from the gene are deleted.
  6. Frameshift mutation can occur if there are 1, 2, or any other non-multiple of 3 deleted nucleotides.
