A measuring cylinder or graduated cylinder is a container of fixed capacity that has volumes marked vertically on its side (commonly in milliliters).
It is used to calculate the volume of irregular solids by measuring the rise in the level of water.
Graduated cylinders are also used to determine displacement, which is a measurement of the change in a volume of water when additional materials are added to it.
