As we know semi-permeable membrane is also called selectively permeable membrane ie, it allows the passage of only selective items through them. It regulates the transportation & exchange of substances like Proteins , nutrients , wastes and metabolic products between organelles , between the cell and outside the environment. It also helps in transportation of ions and water soluble molecules.
