What is a solution? Give its three properties.

Solution:

  1. Solutions are a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances.
  2. A solution results from a process of dissolution, in which one substance is dispersed in another until they are thoroughly mixed.
  3. Example: Saltwater, sugar water, soda water, Pepsi, lemonade, etc.

Properties of a solution:

  1. A solution is homogeneous in nature.
  2. Particles of a solution are smaller than 1nm(10-9meters) in diameter. So, they can't be seen by the naked eye.
  3. The particles of a solution quickly pass through a filter paper. Therefore they cannot be separated by the process of filtration.
  4. The solution is stable because the solute particles do not settle on keeping.
