The molecules which contain central atoms with more than eight electrons in their outermost shell are called super octet structures. Example: IF7 , SF6 .
In IF7 molecule, the number of electrons in the outermost shell of an I atom, the central atom is fourteen - seven electrons of its own and seven gained from F atoms. The moleculescontaining central atoms with more than an octet of electrons are called as super octetstructures.
