1. A system in which all living organisms such as plants, animals, and microorganisms interact with the physical environments such as air, water, sun, weather, climate, and soil is known as an ecosystem.
2. The living components of an ecosystem are known as biotic components.
3. The non-living components of an ecosystem are known as abiotic components.

Sustainable ecosystem:

1. The ecosystem that supports a sustainable life i.e. is able to meet the needs of the present population and the future population, without any assistance from outside the ecosystem is known as a sustainable ecosystem.
2. A sustainable ecosystem is a self-sustaining system.

Examples of the sustainable ecosystem: Healthy wetlands, the Appalachian region in the United States.
