Question

What Is Post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression?

Open in App
Solution

Post-Transcriptional Regulation of Gene Expression:

  1. After transcription of the DNA and formation of the RNA, mainly three post-transcriptional events take place which are Capping, Tailing, and Splicing.
  2. Regulation of RNA splicing is post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression.
  3. In splicing, non-coding regions called introns are excised and exons or coding regions join together to produce mature mRNA.
  4. Along with splicing, different epigenetic factors also regulate gene expression.
  5. Gene expression is also regulated at the time of the transport of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm for protein synthesis.
