- Processing level - regulation of splicing (removal of non coding sequences i.e. introns)
- Transport of mRNA from nucleus to cytoplasm
- Translation level (protein synthesis)

Whereas, in prokaryotes the lack of the membrane bound organelles and nucleus does not exhibit the stages of the gene expression in different areas of the cell . This results in the regulation of gene expression at the site of transcriptional initiation.
