What is atmospheric pressure? What impact does gravity have on it?

Solution
Air has weight. The mass of a column of air above a given point determines the atmospheric pressure at that point. The pressure exerted by the atmosphere at any point is equal in all directions. The atmosphere exerts a pressure of 1034 grams per square cm at sea level
Air pressure has a proportional relationship with gravity. With increasing altitude, the air pressure decreases as gravity effect of earth reduces. On the other hand, the pressure increases with increasing depth of the ocean. Water is denser than air that is why the decrease of pressure with increasing height is less as compared to the way pressure increases under water due to the effect of gravity.
