  1. The axolotl is a larva of Amblystoma tigrinum (tiger salamander).
  2. Axolotls are those amphibians that reach adulthood without undergoing any metamorphosis.
  3. Axolotl larva shows structural features similar to that of typical salamander larvae which include external gills and a caudal fin which extends from behind the head to the vent i.e. laterally compressed tail.
