Solution

Biodiversity refers to the variety of organisms in an ecosystem. However, the biodiversity of an ecosystem is lost when there is an over exploitation of the available resources, fragmentation of the habitat or invasion by any alien species.
The other causes of loss of biodiversity are as follows:
  • Population explosion is the sudden increase in the population when it exceeds its carrying capacity.
  • Pollution is the addition of the contaminants which adversely affect the environment.
  • Ecological succession is the directional change in the flora and fauna of a given region over a period of time.
  • Migration is the movement of an organism from one geographical location to the other in search of better living conditions.
