A bioreactor is a vessel in which raw materials are converted into products, using microbial plant, animal or human cells. It provides the optimal conditions by providing optimum temperature, pH, substrate, vitamins, oxygen, etc. It has an agitator, an oxygen delivery system, a foam controller, a temperature controller, pH, controller and sampling ports so that culture can be withdrawn periodically. Commonly used bioreactor are Simple stirred tank bioreactor, Sparged stirred tank bioreactor. A bioreactor requires several components to ensure that cultures will finish with desired productivity. These include a stainless steel vessel, temperature control, agitation, sparge gas control, pH and dissolved oxygen control.
