Solution
Bolting:
Bolting is a process that sometimes induces flowering stems in horticultural or agricultural crops before they are harvested, this helps in increased reproduction.
Under stress conditions, bolting occurs as an effort to grow seeds, it is also referred to as the survival mechanism of a plant.
Examples of some of the crops that are generally bolted are basil, lettuce, onion, etc.
Bolting is induced naturally under acceptable temperatures and by photoperiods which is when the plants receive the required amount of light or darkness.
Bolting is induced artificially by treating with the plant hormone gibberellin which is naturally found in the plants but can also be exogenously produced. The height of intermodal regions of the stem is increased by these gibberellins.
