What are chasmogamous and cleistogamous?

Open in App
Solution

Chasmogamous:

  1. Polyploidy is an open flower with an exposed anther and a stigma.
  2. These flowers open at maturity.
  3. These flowers facilitate cross-pollination (and sometimes cross-pollination) and are dependent on pollinators.
  4. Examples of such flowers are hibiscus, sunflower, etc.

Cleistogamous:

  1. Cleistogamous flowers are closed flowers that do not open and remain in the bud state.
  2. The anther and style are not exposed in this pattern and are located close to each other.
  3. The reproductive structures are usually smaller, so less pollen is needed.
  4. As the flowers do not open. Thus, cross-pollination does not occur in hybrid flowers.
  5. For example oxalis, voila, etc.
