Circulatory system:

Circulatory system consists of the heart, a network of blood vessels and blood.

Heart:

  1. It is a muscular organ which pumps the blood into blood vessels.
  2. Sends the blood to the body parts through arteries.
  3. Receives the blood from the body parts through veins.

Blood vessels:

  1. They are thin tube like structures which start from the heart and run through out the body.
  2. They carry the blood from the heart to all the body parts and back to the heart.
  3. They are of three types: Arteries, veins, and capillaries.
  1. Arteries: Carry the blood from the heart to the body parts
  2. Veins: Carry the blood from body parts to the heart.
  3. Capillaries: Arteries divide into arterioles and further divide and form capillaries. They reunite and form veins.

Blood: Blood is a red colour fluid which flows in the blood vessels from the heart to the body parts and body parts to the heart.

Functions of the Circulatory system.

  1. Circulates Oxygen and removes Carbon Dioxide.
  2. Provides cells with nutrients.
  3. Removes the waste products of metabolism to the excretory organs for disposal.
  4. Protects the body against disease and infection.
  5. Clotting stops bleeding after injury.
