Conservation of wildlife: 1 Mark
Need: 2 Marks
Wildlife conservation is an attempt to protect endangered animal and plant species, along with their natural habitat.
Wildlife conservation is needed because of the following reasons:
a) Promotion of biodiversity - Biodiversity is essential for a healthy and functional ecosystem. If wildlife is extracted from its natural habitat, the delicate balance of the ecosystem will be disturbed which will then lead to disastrous results.
b) Benefits to humans - Wildlife protection is essential because if the animals are gone, it will be impossible to study and learn from them. Animals are used for many purposes. For instance, a lot of medicines are derived from the chemicals produced by animals.
c) Conservation of natural habitat - Wildlife conservation enables conservation of the natural habitats of these animals. Conservation of natural habitats will also be beneficial for humans since it helps keep the essential watersheds intact and ensures clean, fresh water.
