What is a diamagnetic ion ?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Diamagnetic materials are those which are freely magnetized when placed in a magnetic field. The direction of magnetization is opposite to that of magnetic field direction.
  2. This property of diamagnetic material is known as diamagnetism.
  3. The net magnetic moment of diamagnetic materials are zero as they have paired electrons.
  4. They are repelled by magnetic field.
  5. Diamagnetic ions are those ions which do not have any unpaired electron.
  6. Example of Diamagnetic ions are Zn2+,V2+and Sc3+.
