What is the difference between light and dark reactions?

Open in App
Solution

Light reaction:

  1. It is a type of reaction that is dependent on light.
  2. It includes the absorption of light energy and later converts it into an energy-rich molecule,i.e. ATP.

Dark reaction:

  1. It is a type of reaction that is light-independent.
  2. It is a reaction that forms carbohydrates by the biochemical reduction of carbon dioxide.

Difference between light and dark reactions:

Licatalyzedutilizingght reaction

Dark reaction

It occurs in the thylakoid membranes of the grana ( Chloroplast). It takes place in the stroma of the chloroplast.
It is a photochemical reaction that needs light energy. It is a series of biochemical reactions that are catalysed by specific enzymes and is carried out in absence of light energy.
During this reaction, light energy is converted to chemical energy in the form of ATP and NADPH2. In this reaction, water gets split into hydrogen and oxygen and later this hydrogen gets combined with NADPH2.In this reaction, the carbon dioxide gets converted to compounds like carbohydrates by utilising the chemical energy of ATP and NADPH2.
