Question

What is dispersal of seeds and pollination

Open in App
Solution

The transfer of pollen grains from the male reproductive part to female reproductive part called stamen and carpel respectively is known as pollination.
The agents of pollination include wind, birds and insects. Pollination by wind means that pollen grains are being blown until pollen grains reach the stigma of another flower to mark the start of fertilization. Pollination by birds means that birds like the hummingbird go from flower to flower and pollen grains get stuck to the beak as the bird is drinking the nectar. When the bird goes to another flower, it pollinates the flower and allows fertilization. Pollination by insects is the exact same thing with birds and the most active agent is the bee.

A plant produces many seeds. Seeds fall on the ground from plants and give rise to new plants. Seeds are dispersed from its parant to far off places to reduce competition among plants for sunlight, water, minerals, and space. This is known as seed dispersal
There are five main modes of seed dispersal: gravity, wind, ballistic, water, and by animals. Some plants are serotinous and onlydisperse their seeds in response to an environmental stimulus.
