Equivalent resistance is the cumulative resistance of the complete circuit.
Equivalent resistance for a series resistance circuit is given by $R e = R_{1} + R_{2} + R_{3}$
Whereas for resistance in parallel it is $\frac{1}{R e} = \frac{1}{R_{1}} + \frac{1}{R_{2}} + \frac{1}{R_{3}}$
