  • Microorganisms such as yeast, bacteria usually play a major role in the fermentation process.
  • Beer, bread, kimchi, wine and yoghurt are made from this process.

The three distinct types of fermentation that are commonly used are:

  • Lactic acid fermentation, the bacteria convert sugar or starches into lactic acid.
  • Acetic acid fermentation.
  • Ethanol fermentation/alcohol fermentation.
