Filtration is a biological/ chemical or physical operation that results in the separation of solid matter from a liquid – by letting the mixture pass through a filter.
In the human body, filtration is done in the excretory system.
The human excretory system consists of a pair of kidneys, a pair of ureters, a urinary bladder, and a urethra.
A kidney is composed of numerous microscopic coiled tubules called nephrons or uriniferous tubules.
A nephron is a long tubule differentiated into four regions having different anatomical features and physiological roles: Bowman’s capsule, proximal convoluted tubule (PCT), a loop of Henle, and distal convoluted tubule (DCT). the latter opens into one of the collecting ducts.
The separation of small molecules and ions from the large molecules and cells in the blood is termed ultrafiltration.
