Solution

Haemoglobin:

  1. The red blood corpuscles are the most numerous formed elements of the blood.
  2. They are the most abundant cells in the human body. In RBC there is an oxygen-carrying pigment i.e. haemoglobin.
  3. When haemoglobin carries oxygen, it becomes bright red oxyhaemoglobin.
  4. Erythrocytes carry a small amount of CO2 as carbamino haemoglobin from the tissue to the lungs for removal from the body.

Binding of Carbon monoxide to Hb:

  1. Carbon monoxide mixes and binds with haemoglobin in the blood to form carboxyhemoglobin (COHb).
  2. When carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin, less oxygen gets transported to body tissues and vital organs such as the brain and heart.
