Open in App
Solution

Glyco - means glucose.
Lysis - means break down.

Glycolysis is breakdown of glucose, to produce energy. It can be considered as reverse of what happens in photosynthesis.

Glycolysis is a series of reactions that help extract energy from glucose. This is an ancient pathway of metabolism that is present in the majority of living organisms today.

the reaction is given as :

C6H12O6 + 2 NAD+ + 2 ADP + 2 P -----> 2 pyruvic acid, (CH3(C=O)COOH + 2 ATP + 2 NADH + 2 H+

The reactions are highly complex and occurs at multiple steps. Your profile reads class 6, so more info is not required. You should learn more in Classes 11 and 12. If you need more information, please ask .
