A homogeneous medium has uniform properties throughout its volume. That is it does not have lumps of different stuff in it. An isotropic medium has similar properties in any direction of travel for waves through that medium.
A material or image that is homogeneous is uniform in composition or character (i.e. color, shape, size, weight, height, distribution, texture, language, income, disease, temperature, radioactivity, architectural design, etc.); one that is heterogeneousis distinctly nonuniform in one of these qualities.
