What is isomer? Is this means similar to allotropes?
Allotropes are different forms of the same element. They contain only one type of atoms. For example, both diamond and graphite contain the same element, which is carbon.
Isomers are different compounds having the same chemical composition (molecular formula), but they are always composed of two or more elements. Isomers differ in the structural arrangements of atoms in their molecules.
Allotropes of an element have different physical properties but similar chemical properties.
Isomers have different physical properties but the chemical properties could be similar or different, depending on the type of isomerism. For instance, chain isomers (e.g. butane and isobutane ) show similar chemical properties but functional isomers (ethanol and dimethylether) do not.
