Crop Rotation:

  1. Crop rotation is the practice of growing a series of dissimilar or different types of crops in the same area in sequenced seasons.
  2. It helps in reducing soil erosion and increases soil fertility and crop yield.
  3. With crop rotation, particular nutrients are replenished depending on the crops that are planted.
  4. Crop rotation maintains a healthy environment for plant growth.

Mainly leguminous plants such as pulses are used for crop rotation as:

  1. Nitrogen is one of the important elements which is utilized by plants during their growth.
  2. In order to fulfill the nitrogen demand pulses are planted.
  3. They contain nitrogen-fixing bacteria in their root nodules which fixes the atmospheric nitrogen in the soil.
