Solute : In a solution, the substance which is dissolved to obtain a solution is called solute
Solvent : In a solution, the substance in which the solute is dissolved is called solvent.

For example, when sugar is dissolved in water to obtain sugar solution, sugar is the solute and water is the solvent.
