Open in App
Solution

Measurement :

  1. Measurement is a comparison of an unknown quantity with a known fixed quantity of the same kind.
  2. The value obtained on measuring a quantity is called its magnitude.
  3. The magnitude of a quantity is expressed in numbers and in its unit.

Example:

  1. To measure the length of a rod, we use a meter scale.
  2. If the length to be measured is 15 times the unit meter, then we write the length of the rod = 15 meters.
  3. Here, 15 is the magnitude (numerical value) and meter is the unit.

Hence, measurement is expressed as a magnitude followed by unit.
