Mycoplasma:

  1. Mycoplasma is the smallest self-replicating organism(approximately 300nm in size).
  2. They are facultative anaerobes as they can survive in anaerobic conditions.
  3. They lack a cell wall.
  4. There are about 200 types of Mycoplasma, and most of them are harmless.
  5. Mycoplasma doesn't have a cell wall, normal antibiotics like penicillin don't work against them.

Antibiotics:

There are three classes of antibiotics that can kill Mycoplasma:

  1. Tetracyclines
  2. Macrolides
  3. Quinolones
