Highly complex and coordinated network of nerve and impulse-carrying cells that transports information from the brain or spinal cord to various parts of the body is called the nervous system.
Structural and functional unit of the nervous system is neurons.
It is divided into two types- Central Nervous System (CNS) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS).
Function of Nervous System:
It helps in sensing the change in environment or stimuli.
It helps in carrying information to the brain and spinal cord via a sensory pathway.
After analyzing the situation, the information in response to the stimulus is transported from the brain or spinal cord to the site of action via a motor pathway.
It is responsible for maintaining homeostasis.
Temperature regulation is done by CNS.
Action of skeletal and smooth muscles.
Vision and hearing analysis is maintained by the nervous system.
