Osmosis:
- Osmosis is the passage of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane from a solution with a high concentration to a solution with a lower concentration.
- It is a generalized process in which gases also participate.
There are three different types of solutions:
- Isotonic Solution: Solution that contains a uniform concentration of solutes both inside and outside the cell.
- Hypertonic Solution: Solution that has a higher solute concentration outside the cell than inside.
- Hypotonic Solution: Solution that has a higher solute concentration inside the cell than outside.
