Solution

Osmosis:

  1. Osmosis is the passage of water molecules across a semi-permeable membrane from a solution with a high concentration to a solution with a lower concentration.
  2. It is a generalized process in which gases also participate.

There are three different types of solutions:

  1. Isotonic Solution: Solution that contains a uniform concentration of solutes both inside and outside the cell.
  2. Hypertonic Solution: Solution that has a higher solute concentration outside the cell than inside.
  3. Hypotonic Solution: Solution that has a higher solute concentration inside the cell than outside.
